Sea White Prawns

Native to the Eastern Pacific, from Mexico to Peru, the White shrimp is the most cultivated shrimp in aquaculture due to ease of cultivation and rapid growth rate. Major exporting countries include Thailand, Ecuador and India.

 

Scientific Name: Penaeus indicus

Market Name: Indian White, Banana Prawn, Tugela Prawn

They can reach up to 23 cm and their body is translucent white, thus the common name “white shrimp”. The raw meat is white but turns whitish pink when cooked.

Our excellent head on tail on butterfly prawns are a great prepared example of the sea white prawns, looking great on seafood platters and are delicious with garlic butter.
